Giorgio Furlani jumped to the defence of Stefano Pioli last night, and Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano has explained what his words regarding the coach really mean.
Despite the fact that the winter mercato has just closed and the team are in a decisive part of the season, there continues to be a lot of talk surrounding the 2024-25 season and in particular whether Pioli will still be in charge.
There have been some rocky periods during the current campaign, it is useless to deny it, but it seems as though the team have emerged from each moment of difficulty rather than descending into a full-blown crisis.
Pioli deserves credit for this, something CEO Giorgio Furlani highlighted last night at the fourth kit launch event, and he also stated that the rumours surrounding the future of the coach are ‘boring’.
Di Stefano spoke live on Sky this afternoon from outside the Milanello training complex about what Furlani said last night and what currently filters regarding the head coach position.
“Are Furlani’s words a confirmation for Pioli? Certainly yes, at least for this season. There is still half a season to play, an almost full second half of the season, a Europa League to try to win or to play as a protagonist,” he said (via MilanNews).
“This is why today any type of evaluation made a priori would be wrong. Nothing has been decided. When Furlani says this it is the pure and simple truth: Milan have not found an agreement for another coach.
“If Pioli were to continue to do well as in recent weeks, because the numbers say that he has the pace of Inter and Juventus, it would be a bit complicated to remove him from the Milan bench. Today any kind of discussion can be made, of course, but that’s all relative.
“Now the pitch counts, it’s the one that’s in charge. If Milan continues to win matches, it will be a little more complicated to think of changing the coach.”
We’ll see how well he’s doing when he comes up against the top two again..
I for one, don’t want another season of boring, one-dimensional football..
I don’t care how the season ends I think it’s time for a change. Pioli and his staff is the reason we had so many muscle injuries and I’m tired of losing to Inter especially in such a bad way.
This team is not that bad and it’s only because of tactics why inter look so superior to Milan.
This is too embarrassing and I can’t bare another season with Pioli especially with us losing to Inter and getting demolished game after game. Something has to give.
It’s time for a change and we need a coach with balls because at times the team lack mental strength and character.
It’s time for Milan to get a big coach like Conte, Klopp or Hansi Flick.
We are not doing well. Do they not watch Milan games? Sure we win some but we do not play well at all. We pinch some wins because the players have quality not because we are a good team.
We havent played well since 21/22.
Pioli gotta go
This may just be Furlani being polite. It says nothing about the club’s summer plans. No need to create tension in the squad right now.
There’s no translation needed. Pretty much Furlani is saying let’s see how this season ends and whether or not Pioli can deliver a Mini Euro Miracle, then we’ll talk. It’s all just PR.
It’s not like Milan would come out and say “yea, you know we’re getting tired of baldie and are shopping around, but haven’t found anyone yet…” LOL!!!
