Antonio Conte would be willing to become the next head coach of AC Milan if a couple of guarantees are met, according to Michele Criscitiello of Sportitalia.
Conte is on the lookout for his next job after parting company with Tottenham in controversial circumstances back in March. He took the role on in November 2021, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, but it didn’t end up being a successful marriage.
Ever since then he has been linked with various opportunities but above all it is a return to Serie A that has generated the most momentum, with several clubs perhaps eyeing up their next head coach.
Sportitalia for example reported earlier today that Conte met in person for the second time with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is pushing to appoint him on a three-year contract, but the Italian wants to coach Milan next.
Now, their director Michele Criscitiello – a well-known journalist – spoke about the situation during a live broadcast on Twitch for OcwSport channel, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.
“In my opinion he would be the best coach for Milan. Conte has met De Laurentiis twice, he is worth around 7-8-9 million euros per season. He is waiting for Milan,” he began.
“Moncada and Ibrahimovic want him. Furlani, a great manager, wants check the accounts. He is the only one to convince, there are all the conditions for the Milan-Conte marriage, but it all depends on Furlani.
“Conte could ask for 4 targeted top reinforcements and 6 total signings. Milan could sell another big player in the summer, which wouldn’t scare him. Conte prefers Milan and then he has a great relationship with Ibra.
“He likes Milan a lot as a team. 7 million plus bonuses, Conte goes to Milan, but I repeat Furlani decides. At the moment, everyone and I repeat everyone, I am on Pioli’s side, but his cycle will end in June.”

This is complete nonsense. I can’t believe you have management at a club talking about who the next manager is going to be while Pioli still has the job. It completely undermines his authority with the players. It’s completely disrespectful. The season isn’t even halfway over. Are they saying there is nothing he can do to keep his job? What if they somehow come back and win the Scudetto? What if they win the Coppa Italia and the Europa League? So we basically have a coach who is going to have to coach half the season knowing he is already sacked? And now the players don’t have to respect him because they know he’s going to be gone anyways.
And I am someone that was saying Pioli needs to go, but this is entirely unprofessional by management and creates an environment where there is no trust.
Seems like Milan will part ways with Pioli in the summer at the latest. So they are starting the leg work.
You don’t need to do it publicly. It just creates a bad atmosphere around the club. I’ve never seen this done in any other sport. Generally if you decide you are moving on from a coach midseason, you let him go and put in an interim coach until you find your permanent replacement. Having a lame duck coach for half the season is not good for anybody, not for the coach or the players.

I’m pretty sure everyone is on the same page about a need for a coaching change at the end of the season. Im not sure how you think this is “public”. This is all tabloids and storylines. Milan hasn’t come out and said they are looking to replace Pioli. In fact Milan isn’t saying anything at all for that matter.
If they are saying Ibra and Monacada want Conte and Furlani wants someone else. Are they completely making this stuff up? Because if you are telling reporters this, that’s pretty public.
What’s the difference with let’s say, a player who won’t renew but still in the team? They’re all professionals, paid to be professionals, and therefore, they should act like one. There’s nothing new in football.
Not the same at all. A coach is not the same as a player. The coach needs to have authority over the players, but if they no he’s basically fired anyways, some may not be that concerned about listening to him. Also what manager wants to coach half the season knowing he is already fired? It’s just bad on so many levels.

Not really. Conte didn’t finish the season out when the Spurs decided they wanted him out. Nor did Solksjaer when Man United let him go. They had an interim manager finish the season before they brought in Ten Hag. What are the instances where someone basically coaches more than half the season knowing that they are already sacked?
Actually, Conte got tired of coaching the Spurs right before the season ended, after yet another particularly bad, lifeless loss by the team. So he called this press conference in which he flamed the entire Spurs team, the management, and the owners, as being just complete losers, with a built-in culture of losing.
Everything he said about the Spurs was actually true, it’s really funny, you need to find that video and watch it.
But of course, it got him fired.
And, that news conference is why Cardinale and Furlani will never hire Conte.

P.S. I looked it up. That was a post game presser in March 2023, after the Spurs coughed up a 3-1 lead to tie Southampton, who were dead last at the time (sounds a bit like Milan?).

Look how spurs were doing this season though before their injurys, with a less known manager and losing their best player. They playing some great football too, conte is a no for me.

You might get immediate success in Italy but history tells us that it’s always short lived. He will burn out the players. They will tune him out after a year and a half. No one wants to listen some lunatic constantly screaming from the sidelines.

Let’s not forget that his Tottenham team was knocked out by Milan when Milan had hard time beating anyone during the 2023. They were awful even though they had better squad than Milan’s without scoring a single goal in 2 games.

Totally agree. If you are trying to build something for the long term Conte is not the guy. He can’t last more than 2 seasons. You may win a scudetto in one of those seasons but is it worth it? The game has passed Conte by, the same as it has Mourinho. But at least Mourinho was once a great coach who could win without always having the best team. Conte will bring immediate trophies. However, it will ten years of rebuilding after that. The reason management love guys like Conte is that those immediate trophies help boost their own careers. They move on before the Conte collapse happens and the rebuild is needed. For Cardinale, those immediate trophies will allow him to sell the team for a huge profit.

We’ve been listening this bedtime story of “Milan getting back to where it belongs” for almost a decade now. There’s no more old AC Milan that many of us fell in love with. And AC Milan won’t get back on top until they own a debt free stadium that will generate money and make this club selfsufficient. That’s roughly another decade.
10 years ago we were still owned by Berlusconi and just beginning banter, so not sure what you’re talking about here. Banter was all about signing washed up free agents in their late 20s/early 30s for high wages. Then came the Li disaster, followed by 2 years of Elliott who didn’t want to own or run a club. Now we have a “settled” owner. His project is only 2 seasons old. They closed in 2022. Remember? This season we got a bad group in the CL and 1000 injured players. All we need is a better manager (not Conte) and on top signing at DM, and I think we challenge for the scudetto and regularly get to the CL knockouts. Oh, and amongst all this change and turmoil we did win a scudetto. How many did Ancelotti’s “world class” side win in 9 seasons? Yeah.
Sacchi also won one scudetto, but he won 2 ECs playing state of the art football and a style of play that has continued to influence the top coaches today, most notably in Klopp’s Liverpool. That’s why Sacchi is remembered and his best disciple, Ancelotti has won 4 ECs are a coach, more than anyone in history, at the 2 most successful clubs in history – Real Madrid and Milan. I absolutely agree on sacchi and he came from serie c team before joining us and as you already mentioned his diciple ancelotti and also mentioned klopp as one theres also pep to mention who has mentioned his style of some sort of inspiration obviously also including cruyff but still sachhi revolutionized football to this day.

When you always cry about money and burn out your players, eventually people stop listening.
