AC Milan did their bit by beating Newcastle United at St. James’ Park last night, but it was not enough to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes this morning, last night’s victory for Milan is not enough to reach the round of 16 of the Champions League. The Rossoneri did what they had to do and defeated Newcastle 2-1 away from home, but PGS went through to the next round as they got a draw.
The Rossoneri are therefore ‘relegated’ to the Europa League and must also say goodbye to their dreams of qualifying for the 2025 Club World Cup. The premature exit from the Champions League has effectively removed Milan from the race for the tournament which will take place in the USA in 2025 (representing Italy there will certainly be Inter and one of Juventus and Napoli).
It is a real shame because it would have been a good achievement for Milan, who now have many regrets about the elimination from this edition of the Champions League, especially for the first two matches of the group against Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund.
They were two 0-0 draws, but in terms of play and opportunities created, Milan certainly deserved to score more than two points. Stefano Pioli himself admitted after the game that is what cost his side.
“The regret remains the first match against Newcastle, we had to win it and we’re sorry to go out Like this,” he said.
A failure mindset remarks is always ” we are sorry”
As long as the management putaran their trust On pioli , this is What deserve it ….
Sometimes you hammer teams and draw, it happens.
The stand out game for me is the Dortmund defeat. An absolute must win game at home and the version of Milan that looks like 11 headless chickens turns up.
That’s the one that will stick in my throat.
damn Milan lost out of Club World Cup, how will they survive?
Heard next year Milan is going into administration again
Who cares about trophies bro? Our beloved inclusive rosazzurri won yesterday’s “final”. We can still cash in with Leao, Théo, Tomori, Maignan to remain profitable. Inter will probably win Serie A but we win the budget trophy! Anyway if Pioli have played some U13 players yesterday PSG would probably have lost so his fault, fire him right fcking now.
What does it take for you to stay positive? Are you seriously sad that Milan won yesterday? You were mad at me for ranting against Inter, but using terms like Rosazzuri the ridicule Milan, are you alright?
Pioli could’ve won against Dortmund, and basically secured our destiny in own hands instead of hoping a gift from Germany, so the blame is still on him!
If you really want to know, I’m glad we are still in Europa, better than nothing. Serious step back from the past seasons, though.
Then in case you don’t know, Milan is ridiculous right now. Maybe I’m stuck in the past when we respected the colors and traditions and played for trophies. They say football is a reflection of our time. Ours is that of mass consumption, entertainment, business and money. I’m really happy for those who can adapt to that with joy.
serious step back to finishing 5th last season lmao, for you that didnt matter huh? The horrible January to March form because your best pal Maldini spent the last 2 summers waffling on his seat
Milan lost only 30-40% of total income. Nothing. You’ve always been a clown and you keep proving it.
The Great Clown is Gerry Cardinale and his lack of interest in Sporting Ambitions
They f*ed up three matches. They didn’t “need” to lose to PSG that much and the two draws were literally unforgiving. You got exactly what deserved.
LEARN. FROM. YOUR. MISTAKES. FFS.
Pioli cost us the Club WC and ~100M€. If Maldini was held accountable for CDK etc., shouldn’t Pioli be too?
…for this I mean.
Pioli should have been responsible when Milan ended in 5th position at the end of last season.
True.
Could someone educate me on why Milan can’t qualify for the 2025 Club World Cup anymore? Will we not be able to earn enough coefficient points through the Europa league?
Good question. Points system seems similar. We need Napoli out next round I think if we’re to stand a chance but not really sure how it works. I extracted this from uefa
UEFA Champions League points
2 – All wins from group stage onwards
1 – All draws from group stage onwards
4 – Group stage bonus participation
4 – Round of 16 bonus participation
1 – Each round clubs reach from the round of 16
Points are not awarded for elimination in qualifying, since those clubs move to the UEFA Europa League and may be awarded points for participation in that competition or the UEFA Conference League.
UEFA Europa League points

All teams are guaranteed a minimum 3 points in the UEFA Europa League group stage (not added to points actually obtained). Thanks for the reply! I found this article https://m.calciomercato.com/news/mondiale-per-club-2025-e-la-giornata-verita-chi-con-linter-la-ju-30515. Only champions league points are considered in the club World Cup calculations. Europa league points don’t matter 🫠
Untold opportunities to go through. All the missed chances in the 1st match. Reijnders missed shot at the end of dortmund in the 2nd match and pulisic trying to score with his back to goal instead of playing leao in. Getting hammered by psg. Not scoring enough against psg. Losing that badly to dortmund when we had them on the ropes. Surely thiaw can’t be that much of a difference that we fall apart once he’s injured. And even yesterday. I came down to goal difference and you’ve got leao and Tomori hitting the post when they should score and theo trying to score from miles out when he just needed to carry the ball another 10 yards and play whoever it was in. Classic theo, going for gold. I can’t believe we miss out when lazio go through. We miss the World Cup. Milan should be a part of this. We’ve paid heavily for not being clinical enough which leads back to getting a proper striker. David isn’t the answer. Sesko is the man they need
Not sure why Juve are in the mix – the cheating gypsies…
