AC Milan recorded a much-needed victory in front of their home fans on Sunday night, beating Roma 3-1 to open up a sizeable gap to fifth place.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) has their player ratings and it is no surprise that they are almost all good scores, starting with Yacine Adli who got a 7 out of 10 for a performance full of character with a goal that had been long-awaited.
The other two goal scorers deserved the same score in the eyes of the paper. Olivier Giroud ‘opened up spaces and kept the Giallorossi markers busy’ and then scored a goal from Simon Kjaer’s assist, providing a lovely assist for Theo Hernandez.
Speaking of Theo, he returned to the flank and appeared shy at first, but then after half an hour he exploded. He hit the crossbar with an attempt from a narrow angle then got his revenge in the second half, crashing a shot in off the woodwork.
Matteo Gabbia’s performance was also really good on his return to being a starter in the league. He scored a 7 as he looked ‘at ease in the four-man back line and in the battle with Lukaku’, though he did miss a big chance to make it 2-0.
Mike Maignan, Davide Calabria, Kjaer, Tijjani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic were all given a 6.5, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek got a 6.
The only small negative was Rafael Leao (5.5) as he had a ‘first half of indolence’ and while he tried to change pace in the second half, there were ‘few appreciable results’.
