AC Milan have been able to count on decisive contributions from Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the past few weeks as he continues his journey back to being his best.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports this morning, Christian Pulisic, Tijjani Reijnders and Loftus-Cheek are certainly the three new summer signings who have done best so far for Milan this season.
The last to explode was the Englishman, who was affected in the first part of the season by groin pain as Stefano Pioli also explained a few days ago.
“He’s working a lot, he had physical problems with groin pain which didn’t allow him to train continuously. There is too much talk about roles: without the ball he has always played as an attacking midfielder,” he said.
In the last four league games, Loftus-Cheek has scored four goals. Since the beginning of 2024 no midfielder has scored more goals than him among midfielders in the five main European leagues (only like Szymon Zurkowski of Empoli has as many).
For Milan, goals from the forwards alone cannot be enough and therefore it is essential to have goal-scoring midfielders like RLC, who actually plays as an attacking midfielder, a bit like Kevin-Prince Boateng did a few years ago.
The paper recalls the words of Boateng in a recent interview: “Loftus-Cheek is very strong, he had already done excellent things at Chelsea.
“Italy is perfect for Ruben, Serie A is missing a player with his quality, with his characteristics. He reminds me a bit but also Nainggolan. He’s a box-to-box player, he can score goals and assists, and he’s a warrior.
The Englishman has five goals this season and aims to reach and surpass his record of goals in a single year, which was 10 in the 2018-19 season under Maurizio Sarri.
Just need RLC to be a bit more consistent. He’s improved a lot in the last couple of games.
