Following the disappointing defeat against Monza, Matteo Gabbia spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the matter. AC Milan had the chance to go second in the standings and the defender admitted that they didn’t do well.
A lot of the Milan players received poor scores in our player ratings this evening, but Gabbia managed to escape with a decent 6/10. The defender’s colleague Malick Thiaw, on the other hand, struggled big time and was given a 3.5/10.
Speaking to MilanTV after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Gabbia shared his thoughts on the nine-game unbeaten run (in Serie A) coming to an end. He stated that ‘these defeats hurt’ but also made it clear that Milan need to shift focus to the Europa League immediately.
On the result…
“We didn’t do well, but we gave everything and it was bad to lose like this, these defeats hurt, we are aware of it, but the season is still long.”
Next game…
“We know that we will take to the field immediately on Thursday and we want to put this bad step aside, we are sorry because we were winning a lot of games. It’s part of football to lose, now we will have to work better at Milanello to get back to doing well in the Europa League and in Serie A.”
Milan will indeed take on Stade Rennes next and after winning 3-0 in the first leg, they should make it to the round of 16. However, today’s result was certainly a knock to the confidence and it remains to be seen how the Rossoneri will respond.
