AC Milan threw away the possibility of obtaining second place in the table and keeping alive an already very complicated Scudetto fight with Inter by losing 4-2 to Monza.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports, it seems as though second place and the title of being Inter’s main title ‘rivals’ is a hot potato. The Bianconeri have been in free fall after they lost to the Nerazzurri, while Milan have again been hampered by a damaging defeat.
The result is that Inter thanks them and can begin to sew the Scudetto and second star on their chest. For Pioli’s team it’s a shame: it now seemed that the Rossoneri had exceeded the limitations of the beginning of the season and instead they all showed up again.
Inadequate reserve options, some very questionable selection choices by Piol and a disastrous defensive phase could open up new and reopen old uncertainties in the heads of the players.
Now, Milan must complete the job in the Europa League on Thursday in France but they have to look over their shoulders a bit in the league, because Atalanta and Bologna are seven points behind and they are both in great form.
Milan will host the Bergamo side next week at San Siro and a defeat would further reduce the gap with the Nerazzurri still having a game in hand too. From a situation in which Milan seemed to be in control, now some small cracks are beginning to appear.
