AC Milan’s loss to Monza is not only frustrating in regards to the Serie A table, given the side could have moved into second, but also affects their standings in Europe’s disciplinary tables.
With the game at 2-0, Luka Jovic seemingly rendered the game out of Milan’s hands, earning himself a red card, with a moment of madness, as he slapped Monza defender Armando Izzo. It is believed that it might not just be a red card, though, with reports suggesting he could be in line for a multi-game ban.
As reported by Calciomercato.com, Jovic’s red now has given the Rossoneri an unwanted title – the club now have the second-worst red-card record in Europe with six dismissals (only Getafe have more, with eight).
Fikayo Tomori’s dismissal against Roma and Mike Maignan’s against Genoa are the only two games where the Diavolo have still won the game. Whereas in the fixtures against Juventus (Malick Thiaw dismissed), Lecce (Olivier Giroud), and Atalanta (Davide Calabria), the side dropped vital points.
Whilst they are among Europe’s leaders for dismissals, they are not amongst Serie A’s leaders for yellow cards – they sit on 56, as opposed to Lecce’s 66 – which suggests the errors are more likely moments of madness, as opposed to repeated errors.
Regardless, Jovic has added to an unwanted record, and it is something which, again, has cost Milan points.
