AC Milan have recently flirted with the idea of creating a B-team to compete in Serie C, as an alternative to offering the players out on loan. Today, a report has suggested what is required for the plans to go ahead.
The idea of Milan entering a side into Serie C has been floating around in recent weeks and months, and they would not be the first, or the last, to do so. With a strong group of youngsters all needing to develop in a professional environment, a B-Team could be the perfect route.
As reported by Calciomercato.com, with the current crop of talent that is in the Primavera, and RedBird’s focus on building for the future, the B-Team could act as an accelerator to the first team, and keep the youngsters in and around Milanello, meaning they can still play for the first team, if needed.
With the prospect of a second side taking the interest of the Rossoneri, there is one thing at this moment stopping them from entering the league.
For them to enter Serie C, a team would have to slot would have to be freed up in the league, upon this the Federation would evaluate the situation and decide if an under-23 team is a valid prospect. Meaning that the Diavolo could have a side in Serie C, as early as next season.
It’s very important for this project to complete, especially considering that homegrown quota is never filled and we are forced every year to buy 1-3 players that are U21 (e.g. Pellegrino or Romero) so that we can have backup players that don’t need to be in the Serie A lists.
Instead, we’d be able to hold to our best youth players for longer (some explode later) and push players like Camarda, Zeroli, Bartesaghi, etc to a more gradual acclimation with professional football.
Add to this that italian players are very expensive if you buy them from one of the smaller teams, and we need to recreate an italian nucleus that we’re currently missing.
Another plus is that we’d be able to call players from the U23 team if we have an injury crisis, instead of filling the bench with Primavera players.
Having a B team in Serie C is a great idea. Much easier (and controllable) than partnerships and loans.
This is especially true as Milan have been looking to beef up their youth talent. For many years, it had been mostly neglected.
really really need this idea. would make the transition from primavera to the 1st team much easier for a lot more players. I agree that we need more of an Italian core in our team, and this would help a lot since being from the primavera, most would know what it means to play for AC Milan. Thus, this would mean we have more grinta in our team in the years to come.
