CM: Milan hope to land €45-50m striker by using €25m duo as counterparts

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are serious about signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and they hope to have a couple of cards to play in their favour, but they face competition too.

There is little doubt about who will be the hot topic of the summer transfer window in Italy as Zirkzee continues to showcase all of his talent with goals, assists and that extraordinary ability to make the team play better.

Calciomercato.com report that is no coincidence that Napoli and Milan are already testing the waters with Bologna to understand their desire, asking price and what the conditions of a potential negotiation might be in view of next season.

For Milan, Zirkzee is not just an objective but a real priority. In a ranking of profiles desired for the attack he is at least on the podium, i.e. one of the top three on the list to become the striker of the future.

Directors Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio are ready to sacrifice Lorenzo Colombo for €15m to get Zirkzee, who the Rossoneri think will command an offer of around €45-50m.

Alexis Saelemaekers could make the difference too, considering that the Emilian club are very happy with the performance of the Belgian who arrived last summer on an initial loan with an option to buy set around €10m.

  1. Colombo 15 mil???
    I mean… Hahahahah

Do you really think that Bologna is idiot?
Nobody estimates him more than 5 million.
So let’s say Salad = 10 mil + Colombo 5 mil + 30 million CASH can bring us Zirkzee

    1. Zirkzee is definitely not worth more than 40 million, otherwise Bayern would have done the buy-back and sold him later. And yes, Colombo right now is not worth more than 10million (at least to us as a home-grown, for other teams might have lower value… Lucca has a loan with option of 8 million ).

For all I care, Saele + Colombo + 25 mill should be more than enough for Zirkzee, especially considering that Zirkzee hasn’t been consistent in all the teams he played, so he’ll either be a backup in a big team or join a lower level Premier League team.

Personally have doubts about whether Zirkzee is the right player for us (Scamacca 2.0) without a solid backup plan (if Giroud leaves), but I hope that coach and management will make the best choice. From Pioli’s words, he seems to like Zirkzee a lot.

      1. Why is Zirkzee not worth more than 40 million? Hojlund had 9 goals and 4 assists in 32 games last season and was sold by Atalanta for 74m euros. Zirkzee has 8 goals and 4 assists through 23 games. So he’s likely to have more goals and assists than Hojlund before his transfer. So it seems like even 50m is a bargain.

        1. 40 million is a lot, and it should get you a solid starter for most teams.

the fact that M.U. bought Hojlund for a lot of money, or Amad Diallo, or West Ham with Scamacca, or Milan with Piatek, etc doesn’t mean that those are not gambles. They are gambles with high risk and high return. Zirkzee is a talented player but for all his talent, let’s not forget that he still hasn’t played a single game with Netherlands NT (are Weghorst and Thijs Dallinga better?).
To make only that gamble can be great, but also can be costly, especially for a lone striker position.

Origi two years ago was a gamble, but at least we had Giroud. Imagine if we got Origi and had only Jovic as backup.

p.s. Hojlund is two years younger than Zirkzee. Age matters in this type of sales …

      2. Zirkzee is a talented player but he seems more of a luxury player than a direct no. 9.
He’s the kind of guy who creates chances and will get goals, he’s just not a bomber.
Milan have quite a few creative players already, what we really need is a strong, quick striker who is a ruthless finisher.

We don’t even need to be chasing the best strikers in the world, there are countless examples of decent strikers who spearhead a creative attack that post big goal numbers.
Like Mario Gomes back in the day for Bayern

  2. As far as I’ve noticed, most clubs prefer pure cash over player swap! Such an exchange is only possible if they really want some of our players, which I’m not so sure about these two.

  3. There is another possibility.
If Bayern want Thiaw or Mike, which it seems they may, things might take a twist.

I don’t want to see either of them leave, but lets say Mike refuses contract extension.
Bayern could exercise their 40m buyout.
Give us Zirkzee plus cash for Mike

It would save us getting in a bidding war

    1. That’s exactly what I posted somewhere else. Bayern exercises their 40m option, flips us Zirkzee and 20m for Mike, and we use the 20m to get Di Gregorio.
