AC Milan were linked with a number of centre-back targets during the January transfer window but none ended up arriving. One of those was Alessandro Buongiorno, and he remains a target.
According to what is being reported by Calciomercato.com, Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio discussed with Stefano Pioli the possibility of bringing forward an investment on a central defender to January in order to really try for Buongiorno.
However, Milan failed to reach the €30-35m that president Urbano Cairo demanded for the Italy international net of any counterparts like Lorenzo Colombo. In June, they could co back in for him.
Buongiorno has been out recently with a shoulder proble but hopes to make his return under Ivan Juric for the match against Roma on Monday 26 February, then to leave with Italy for the European Championships in Germany this summer.
Last August, the defender refused a transfer to Atalanta to extend his deal with Torino until 2028, which at the same time gave him an increase in salary to €1.2-1.3m net per season including bonuses.
When Milan knocked on Torino’s door and the player’s agent Beppe Riso explored with his client the possibility of a transfer during the current season, Buongiorno did not remain completely insensitive to the charm of the Rossoneri.
To leave the team of his heart, it would need to be to take a big leap forward in his career such as playing regularly in the Champions League, as well as the prospect of fighting for the top positions in Serie A.
Inter and Juventus also have an interest in the 24-year-old, but the main fear is competitors from abroad because Premier League teams and Bayern Munich are evaluating a potential move.
Wait so Cairo wanted more than 35mil for Buongiorno? Or just that he didn’t want to sell in the winter?
Maybe, look at Belotti
Kjaer is probably leaving but he’ll be replaced by another free agent I’m sure. Unless one of Tomori/Thiaw/Kalulu leave or we get a coach who plays backline of 3, splashing 35 millions on him doesn’t make sense.
When everybody is back gabbia would probably be kjaer replacement, he has been better then the Dane. I would like selling Tomori for Buongiorno if we make a good profit.
