Falk: Milan ‘currently offering €40m’ for Leipzig forward but face Arsenal competition

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan want Benjamin Sesko to be their striker for the future and they have made an offer in view of the summer, according to one journalist.

Milan need to invest in a new centre-forward ahead of the 2024-25 season, given that the current first choice option Olivier Giroud is now in his late 30s and his contract will expire in June, as will Luka Jovic’s.

A number of different targets have been linked – each of which we analysed in a recent feature – but there is no doubting that the majority of reliable sources believe Sesko is near the top of the list.

According to what Bild journalist Christian Falk is reporting for our colleagues CaughtOffside, RB Leipzig consider Lois Openda to be unsellable in view of the summer, but he has a release clause valid from 2025 for €85m.

Interested clubs from England are already lining up to sign him, including West Ham, Brighton, Liverpool, Newcastle, and Chelsea. The attacker has a contract in Leipzig until 2028.

It is a different situation for Sesko though, who arrived last summer for €24m from Leipzig’s sister club Red Bull Salzburg. He claims Milan ‘are currently offering €40m’ but Arsenal are also watching the attacker.

The Slovenia international has a release clause of €50m in his contract, which is valid until 2028, so he is a tempting profile to many.

  1. People made fun of Hojlund at Man United because he was not scoring and Atalanta got a big amount of money for him, but he is now scoring on a ragular basis and he is only 20. Sesko has the potential to do the same if coached properly.

  2. I am more in favor of Girona Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk. He’s in his prime at 26yrs and his market value is around 30m.

We all know the last time we had a striker from the Ukraine how it turned out for Milan. That’s the striker we should target.

If Conte arrives we will need two strikers especially if Giroud leaves this summer which he should. So look out for Lukaku’s name to be in the mix come this summer.

I would love to see Artem Dovbyk and Lukaku as our strkers next season under Conte.

    1. Dovbyk is 26, and he hasn’t shown anything close to what we need. He’s shown even less than what Piatek did during his time in Serie A. So no, it would be a complete waste, if things are what they are, and what Igli Tare said is true about our offer for SMS, then there is money to be spent. The thing is it seems management just doesn’t have faith in the choices Pioli and Maldini made. So let’s see what happens, Conte and Ibra, should Conte take over of course, know exactly what’s needed, and it isn’t Lukaku and Dovbyk.

      1. Re Lukaku, he is precisely who Conte will request. And he will be available for ~30m. I’ve been saying it for a bit now. It’s why the Leao departure rumors are ramping up and why we’re still after centerbacks. It’s all shaping up for Conte, unfortunately.

  3. Both are skilled, tall and strong but between the two I’m more in favour of Zirkzee. Same price tag but already used to the league and language. Šeško is good player but we need ready striker not someone who’ll need time to settle.

  4. More smoke and mirrors.

If we really wanted Sesko we would pay the release clause of 50M. We are offering 40M apparently – so at this point IF you feel he is the next big thing – then what’s 10M at that point? Especially considering the age of Giroud and his upcoming free agency. BUT I’m sure
We will continue to haggle and pretend we are interested only to be beaten out by Arsenal who will offer the full 50M and then go the cheap route again and pick up another Jovic type player.

Leipzig have ZERO intention to sell him for anything less than that release clause. So if we REALLY want him we will pay it period. You cannot always get a “bargain” in life. Sometimes you have to pay full price – and that is ok if it’s something you really desire.
