GdS: Probable XIs for Monza vs. Milan – changes in every department

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli seems to have settled on the side that will take to the field tonight at the U-Power Stadium against Monza, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), there is likely to be a change in defence compared to the side that beat Rennes in the Europa League with Malick Thiaw taking Simon Kjaer’s spot.

The rest of the back four ahead of goalkeeper Mike Maignan will then be completed by Alessandro Florenzi at right-back, Matteo Gabbia partnering Thiaw and Theo Hernandez at left-back.

There will be a double change in midfield too as per the paper, with Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders returning to the bench in order for Yacine Adli and Ismael Bennacer to take back their spots.

Noah Okafor is down to be the right winger over Christian Pulisic, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek the attacking midfielder and Rafael Leao on the left. Luka Jovic should be the striker over Olivier Giroud, too.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan, Florenzi, Thiaw, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Adli; Okafor, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Jovic.

Probable Monza XI (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Izzo, Pabli Mari, Carboni; Birindelli, Pessina, Gagliardini, Zerbin; Colpani, Mota Carvalho; Colombo.

  1. Though I understand rotation is important, I don’t like the complete change of the double pivot at all, would prefer Pioli leaves one player from the previous game and pair with the fresh one.
