GdS: San Donato mayor set to begin public debate on Milan stadium next week

By Euan Burns -

The mayor of San Donato is set to begin the public debate on AC Milan’s new stadium on Tuesday next week, meaning the club are potentially set for more swift progress towards a new ground.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), Francesco Squeri is going to begin the next phase of Milan’s move to San Donato on Tuesday and he is aiming to gauge public opinion on the proposed development.

There will certainly be some people present at the meeting who are against the stadium, as they do not wish to see any major change in their local area.

The debate is expected to go on until the end of the month, and then Squeri will talk to the city council about the outcome and the proposed timeline of the stadium construction.

Milan intend to start building the stadium in 2026, with the earliest possible opening being in 2028. 2029 is the more likely year in which Milan will play their first game at their new stadium.

Milan have already purchased the land on which the stadium is to be built, so now there are just bureaucratic processes standing in the way of the Rossoneri and the construction phase of the project.

I think the feeling of the neighbors is quite diminished here. Major change is 70k people invading your neighbor almost every week, noise pollution, arguably concerts and other shows from time to time, hence decrease of value of your personal estate, with the housing market in Milan being insane so it’s hard to move, especially if you sell low.

When Barbara Berlusconi wanted to build a stadium next to Casa Milan, you could see on most buildings around banners saying “no to the stadium”. I feel like it’s not going to be easy for Redbird if there is a referendum.

    1. Barbara almost succeed but then Silvio put a stop on it for sentimental reason, otherwise we could have celebrate the first Scudetto on the new home. It was called cathedral I think
