Giornale: Balogun idea gaining momentum at Milan despite Arsenal’s price tag

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer and they are not letting go of Folarin Balogun as a target, according to a report.

According to what is being reported by Il Giornale (via MilanNews) today, Balogun is an idea that is gaining momentum among the Milan management as they look at options to bolster the role of striker.

The Arsenal-owned forward spent last season on loan at Stade de Reims where he collected 39 appearances and scored 22 goals, thus arousing interest from around Europe.

The 22-year-old seems to fit in with the parameters of Milan’s project because he is young, has good experience but the potential to grow and he would offer something different to what Olivier Giroud does.

A report from Sky on Monday night night stated that Balogun is Milan’s ‘big dream’ for the attack along with Jonathan David of Lille, but the high asking price makes things difficult.

Journalist Daniele Longo stated yesterday that the Gunners want at least €40m if they are to consider selling, while the player himself has ruled out the idea of another loan deal.

  1. If the club goes for the Danish Winger Milan can Move up for him and the funds can go for him he is good and young, plus with 433 Pulisic Can play as winger and when he changes formation to 42231, he can move as a Player Maker.

  2. This guy could be special, if they can bring him that’s a huge move. Being prolific playing for a small club like Reims is not easy, he’s talented and got potential. For comparison, Boulaye Dia scored 3 goals in 18 games with Reims when he had the same age.

    1. Redbird limited one player max 30m euro , this transfer wont happen unless arsenal accept payment in 2 or 3 times installment. Balogun have speed & can create chance , he would be good for AC Milan

      1. If the reports are true, it just means that transfers of over 30m need signing off by the full board instead of Furlani/Moncada.

If it’s doable within FFP restrictions (and Tonali sale eases that a lot) then they may allow a higher value purchase if they think it’s good value. And there’s a possibility this young, semi-priven, American striker represents good value to them.

  3. American owners so not surprised with the links. 2bh I’d prefer Balogun to Pulisic (mainly from a fitness/reliability perspective) but I had hoped wed do better than either.

guess the marketing strategy maybe more important to Redbird, ahead of FIFA WC in a few years USmilAn is certainly quite marketable.

-Attack looks much better, midfield looks ok but what could become interesting is Adli if he shines in preseason and convinces Pioli to get into that midfield 3

          1. I think he’ll do just fine, he’s used to play on the wings and he did great in his BVB days. I just hope he can stay fit and shut all of us doubters.

      1. There’s another option here – Reijnders or Bennacer in the central would mean they could transitions into 4231 in attacking phase where one of these two would push inside the hole of #10 position while DOminguez and RLC stay a bit behind. In that case we need someone like Dominguez even more to hold the midfield while attacking.

    1. That’s not how the Prem works. They’re bored of him – sell sell sell so they can buy buy buy. It’s all about the new signing insta reels in the US enclave of England.

  4. I think the price tag is somewhere around 40-50mil and that’s a tough ask for Milan. SO, moving on to other targets. No need to stare at the windows of the expensive stores…

  5. The new milan management is confused, has no plan and does not know which direction to take. We have been reading about so many attackers and so many wingers that we are completely at a loss regarding our attack for 2023-2024. This policy of chasing 10 players and then getting none of them is getting milan nowhere. Cannot we just identify one great attacker, offer the fee that his team wants, get him and move on?
