MN: Chukwueze set to rejoin training before Europa League clash

By Euan Burns -

A Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze is expected to be back in training at Milanello on Wednesday, which puts him in contention for involvement against Stade Rennes in the Europa League on Thursday night.

As has been reported by Milan News, the Nigerian winger is back in Italy and will be reporting for training tomorrow, having missed the Tuesday session in which Stefano Pioli was given an award for 100 wins in Serie A as a coach.

Chukwueze has been away at the Africa Cup of Nations for the past month. His side managed to get all the way to the final but they were beaten 2-1 by hosts Ivory Coast, failing to really show their best form when it mattered.

He will not be in as good a mood as he might have been if they had won the trophy, but he will have to put that behind him for the rest of the season.

Pioli is still expected to stick with Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao on the wings against Rennes on Thursday night at San Siro, but Chukwueze could get minutes from the bench to get him settled back in.

Chukwueze started the final in Ivory Coast but did not show the best of his abilities.

    1. He barely played, the only time I watched him was coming on in the second half of the semi final and honestly he was the most dangerous player in Nigeria’s team (although Lookman and Oshimhen were already tired by then).
He started the final but i didn’t watch it because Milan – Napoli started 15 mins before.

  1. Changing the subject, did the ‘Brahmin Diaz haters’ subsection of our beloved ‘Doom & Gloom Pack’ watch the boy’s stunner today in RM’s match against RB Leipzig? Maybe they’re still celebrating his departure from Milan haha…

    1. Doom and gloom pack? I don’t know what you mean – people show nothing but support for the club owners manager and players here. You must be thinking of some other site.

    2. There’s not a lot to regret since we never owned him outright.

We shouldn’t be loaning players and developing them for our direct rivals/clubs we aspire to competing with.

We also shouldn’t be loaning players to our direct rivals like we did with CDK.

In fact the whole is just so typical of the dysfunctional nature of the modern transfer market.

    3. i remember Diaz, yup. Little wind blown his way and he was off the ball. Puli is 3 times the player. No loss in not buying him, he wanted real anyway

  2. The guy is clearly having a rough year this season, disrupted pre season with his late transfer and hasn’t gotten (or earned) a good run of starts. His time will come with Milan, just hope he can contribute a bit this season to get his confidence up.
