Lorenzo Colombo has been training with the first team of AC Milan since he returned from his loan spell Lecce and Stefano Pioli is seemingly happy with what he has seen. In fact, the youngster could even remain.
Colombo has featured in both friendlies in the USA thus far, although yet to find the back of the net. At the age of 21, he has a lot of potential and he has been linked with another loan move for next season.
However, as learned by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Pioli has asked the Milan management to give Colombo more time with the first team. The manager believes he has different characteristics compared to Olivier Giroud and Noah Okafor, which could be useful in the upcoming season.
Therefore, Colombo could remain at Milan at least for the first half of the season. The next few weeks will be decisive to understand the situation as Atalanta are lurking in the background, willing to sign the striker on a permanent basis.
If this is true then great.
I don’t know why but I have soft spot for Colombo… hope he will get better and better here.
Or maybe it’s because Alejo Veliz won’t join? Or will join in second dhalf of season?
Lets try Colombo in the first half of the season. I like him. He can learn from Oliver. An he is good for the team regulations.
Apart from his left foot that can produce some spectaculars once in a long while, I honestly didn’t see anything that could make him an elite. He lacks the grinta in him.
In the other hand, Veliz looks like a real predator, a bloodlust one. He is younger, taller, and if any of u have checked the way he heads the ball, u might actually see that he is a rare breed. Headed finish isn’t something that u can learn easily through the years, I might say it’s pure instict. Plus a good chance to learn directly from Oli, I can only hope we can secure him ASAP.
I’ve a feeling Pioli won’t give Veliz enough minutes for his proper development. He’ll play Giroud way too much. We can sign Veliz and leave him there on loan. Giroud will be 38 or something next year and Pioli would perhaps consider other options better. If Veliz manages another good season his standard will be even higher. I doubt a few appearances at Milan will help his growth that much. Meanwhile Colombo could be happy with that role and more determine to prove something
I really agree with you about Veliz, from the videos you get that he is an old school goalscorer specialist and it would be awesome to have him develop with us . However now that we have Leao, Chuk, Giroud, Okafor, Pulisic & Romero it seems with Veliz arriving some players we got, who are all exciting ,just won’t get game time.
It seems we went from no alternatives to having too many!
Colombo for me is not quite there yet and being thrust into the first team could be a sink or swim moment.
As long as Veliz and Estevee arrive and are cooking in the background we can all feel confident in the future of our project especially since we all do have Zerelli, Chaka and Lazetic as well.
Well, they did say they wanted to keep Veliz until December, so this might work out. See how Colombo does and if he’s doing great, getting minutes and scoring a couple of goals we may not even need Veliz. If he’s not doing great he can go out on loan in January and Veliz can come in.
Yes, we have players with different characteristics in each position..but the problem is that Pioli rarely adjusts his tactics enough to accomodate different player characteristics.
I don’t know. When he played, wasnt really convincing. I see him more like Petagna or Cutrone. Nothing really special.
Please can Lazetic and Adli get an equal opportunity? The lads deserve it too.
Lazetic failed to leave an impression in the Austrian Bundesliga after it split into two play off groups, so he was exclusively playing the weak half of the league. He is not ready to get a chance for the main team and also doesn’t deserve it based on that.
Lazetic rarely showed anything when he played(which was very little to be honest) but he basically did not impress out on loan either.
Adli is a different story . He has talent which is plain to see but somehow can’t please Pioli. Perhaps Adli deserves more chances but in a 4-3-3 as a pivot? He might grow into the role I’m not sure, he probably would be happier as an old school number 10 in another team.
In a 4-3-3 he needs to play in Reijnders position imo.
Pioli has used him as a pivot , being Krunic’s substitute in the last two friendlies because of his very good measured passing and he has done well on the pitch in pre-season (Still pre-season).
In Reijnders position he would have more box to box running to do and he will need more physicality, contact which is not his strong suit but he is still young and can change . He is a natural no. 10 though.
Don’t underestimate Reijnders for even though he is lean, he is strong and is blessed with great balance and mental speed.
Bet you not watching the US Tour
I think we have a great squad for the coming season ,in particular attack wise ,,.I think Olivier Giroud will still be our main man for centre foward ,and I can see why he has great technical ability inside the 18 yard area and is extremely physically strong..He holds the ball up so well giving wide players the chance to get on the ball ..I really do think this team we have has got goals in it ..I believe Olivier will have his best season for us and that he should score around 20 goals in all competitions..Now that’s not a bad return,.and of course Rafael Leao will create goals and score perhaps around 20 .We have got so much pace in the team now with pulisic and we have got a great strong physical midfield player in Loftus cheek ..I like Loftus a lot ,,just hope he stays fit …..My real concern is in defence. We do need another defender…
I think we have a good chance of winning the scuddeto again ..We will certainly put up a serious challenge…We also have a team capable of doing well again in the champions leauge ..So all the signs look promising..
Let colombo compete with alejo velis . We cannot rely on giroud whole season . I agree with pioli here
I don’t see anything in Columbo that says he will be anything but at best another Borriello type player. Fine for smaller clubs but not a starter for a big club. Nothing in his game excites. He’s not fast nor incredibly physical and doesn’t have poachers instincts or a lethal shot and isn’t a clinical finisher. Yes he’s young and some can be learned – but either you have some of these traits or you don’t. At best he’s a career backup. If he wasn’t Italian he’d already be gone. Rather have Veliz than Columbo any day.
