The five key battles that could win or lose the game for Milan against Monza

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will face Monza in an important game tomorrow, hoping to bounce back after the defeat to Atalanta last weekend. The Rossoneri are indeed the favourites to claim all three points and there will be some key battles to consider.

Stefano Pioli has been forced to exclude Yunus Musah from the squad as the midfielder is struggling with muscle fatigue. On the other hand, Simon Kjaer has recovered from his injury and could even play from start tomorrow.

Below are the key battles for the game, and it should be kept in mind that the predicted starting XIs could change.

Key battles

Andrea Colpani has had a fantastic start to the season, with six goals scored, and could be up against the youngster Davide Bartesaghi. The Monza star likes to drift inside and the Milan youngster will have to keep a close eye on him. Stefano Pioli might opt for Simon Kjaer instead, though, with Theo Hernandez starting on the left again.

Another important player in attack for Monza will be the Milan loanee Lorenzo Colombo, who most likely will battle it out with Fikayo Tomori tomorrow. The Englishman is clearly a lot faster, but the Italian is strong and smart with his movement.

In the middle of the pitch, Ismael Bennacer is set to make his first start since the comeback and will be tasked with keeping Dany Mota quiet, as well as the strikers to some extent. The Algerian is well known for his defensive abilities and will be key for the Rossoneri. Tommaso Pobega is also in the running for a starting spot.

Further up the pitch, from Milan’s perspective, Christian Pulisic will most likely have some space to work with against Giorgos Kyriakopoulos. The latter likes to get forward a lot and isn’t the best of defenders, which the American should aim to exploit as much as possible.

Finally, Rafael Leao will be up against his compatriot Pedro Pereira and there is a clear difference in quality between the two. If he were to wake up on the right side of the bed, the Portuguese winger could have a fun game at San Siro.

  1. Why in Italy do they allowed loan players to play against their parent club?

Why would a team try and help the opposition?

It’s just yet more stupidity with the transfer market and loans specifically.

Colombo clearly has no future at Milan so it’s probably best if he’s out of his misery sooner rather than stringing him along with loans for the next few years.

Well done everyone on another unsuccessful primavera player.
