Paris Saint-Germain have seemingly set their sights on Rafael Leao ahead of the summer. However, as a report claims, it will take a lot of money for AC Milan to accept a sale of their star.
Kylian Mbappe will reportedly leave PSG in the summer and the French side will thus need at least one replacement. As stated in today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), they could bring in both Victor Osimhen and Rafael Leao.
Milan’s strategy
Having renewed Leao’s contract at the end of last season, Milan are keen on continuing with the winger and the latter appears to be very happy at the club. Therefore, there is a very high price to separate the two, as the pink newspaper states.
The release clause is set at €175m and it remains to be seen if PSG are willing to pay it. If that is the case, then Leao will have to make a decision on the potential move. The clause, in that sense, has given Milan a lot of protection for situations like these.
Having said that, Milan could sit down with a club if there is ‘a crazy offer’ on the table. Certainly triple-figures, but perhaps it does not have to be as much as the release clause. So while the idea is to continue with Leao, there might be some reflections in the summer.
Leao fits the profile
It will be very difficult for PSG to fully replace Mbappe, impossible even, but Leao shares some of the characteristics that make the Frenchman so good. Skilful in possession, a tremendous acceleration and the ability to decide games on his own are just a few of them.
When Leao arrived at Milan, he was certainly an unpolished diamond, lacking consistency which is so important for every top footballer. Five years later, and with a Scudetto in the bag, he has become one of the best wingers in the world and is still improving.
He represents a good opportunity for PSG, in other words, but Milan will not let their star leave for a small amount. The feeling is that €100m will not be enough either, though around €120m could be very difficult to reject.
