The former AC Milan director Ariedo Braida has shared his thoughts on the future of Stefano Pioli and the remainder of the Rossoneri’s season. He stated that they must aim to win the Europa League, having returned to important levels.
For an impressive 27 years (1986-2013), Braida was a director at Milan and certainly knows what it takes to create a successful team. At the age of 77, he has now retired after previously holding the position as CEO of Cremonese.
Speaking to this morning’s edition of Tuttosport, as cited by MilanNews, Braida shared his thoughts on Pioli. The manager has been heavily linked with an exit in the summer but Braida believes Milan should keep him. He also outlined the goal for the Europa League.
” like Pioli and I’m holding on to him. When things work, it means that there is continuity on the corporate side and on the bench. Where there is frequent change, however, things go wrong. Sometimes there are exceptions and new solutions must be found, but in this case, Pioli is proving that he is worthy and that he is a good coach. I would go ahead with him.
“Two months ago I harshly criticized Milan, because I saw them as unconvincing in many situations. Now they have grown and are returning to an important level, as Milan. In recent weeks, the team has matured a lot: now they play more confidently and they cover spaces well. I hope they can compete at the highest levels. Europa League? Milan can certainly have their say in this tournament. They must aim to win the trophy,” he stated.
Milan’s Europa League adventure certainly got off to a good start with the 3-0 win against Stade Rennes on Thursday evening. Provided that the second leg goes according to plan, the draw for the Round of 16 will be very interesting with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool possible.
Changed his tune that quickly because we are back to winning? Milan has a stable system, is far improved compared to last year and only need a two or three more signings to have a really complete team.
