Mike Maignan was unbeaten again last night during the 3-0 victory against Stade Rennais, thus achieving back to back clean sheets for the first time in over three months.
As Calciomercato.com report, clean sheets with Maignan defending the posts shouldn’t be news but in the previous five games Milan had conceded eight times and the French goalkeeper was the subject of some criticism following soft goals let in.
Away from the field, at Milan the topic of Maignan’s renewal remains very hot. On the one hand there is the awareness of being able to work with relative calm given the current deadline set for 2026.
On the other hand there is the awareness that a significant effort will be needed to reward a player who has undergone exponential growth season after season.
Maignan, like Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez, is considered by the owners as one of the champions of the squad and as such must also be considered from an economic point of view.
In the first contacts with his entourage discussions started from a base of €5m net per year plus bonuses which would make the French goalkeeper the highest paid in the squad like Leao.

However, it will take time and work because today the parties are not close. Maignan aspires to a contract worth €8m net per season and in the background Bayern Munich are lurking alongside Chelsea.
Both of those clubs would likely have no problem matching Maignan’s demands salary-wise. For Milan, the valuation they have placed on the former Lille man is €100m.
This is the position I’m most okay with in selling the starter. I like Sportiello and getting 100 mil for Mike would be amazing. It wouldn’t force our hand in spending a large chunk of the money in replacing that position so we could use the whole amount to improve other areas.
Sell for 100m. Then we get 35m for CDK which includes add ons since he is exceeding certain targets set in the contract sale to Atalanta. With the money from Saelemaekers, Messias, Origi and the other players we will have at minimum 150m to reinvest in the squad.
Maignan is not hard to replace. The only problem is do we entrust Pioli next season or bring in someone like Conte who wants to win and not settle for champions league qualification 4th place finish.
You should be smoking something to say that its easy to replace Maignan after what ever he has shown over the past 3years.

I don’t see any player better maignan except Thibault courtois, alisson becker. Even these 2players don’t have better shot stoppage ratio(it means the strong hands not the no of shots stopped).

It is difficult but for scouts not impossible to find good Maignan match
There’s statistics you can measure and there are factors you cannot. Maignan has been one of the undisputed leaders of the team mentally, a leader that we are currently short of. And in football it’s unwritten rule – when keeper performs, whole team does. Remeber when we had Tatarusanu between the posts. Yeah. So moneyball can give us statistically comparable player but algorithms cannot predict if one will settle mentally into the squad. And that goes for all signings.
After the Tonali’s sale, I can totally see Maignan goes. Moreover if the contractual issue hasn’t been settled yet by summer. Di Gregorio can be decent replacement.
