CorSport: Theo full of confidence and ready to play where needed

By Oliver Fisher -

Theo Hernandez will be full of confidence after his man of the match performance against Napoli on Sunday, and he may once again be asked to play a different role to his usual one.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that whether he has to play as a full-back or a centre-back it doesn’t seem to matter because Theo ‘does everything’.

In tomorrow’s match against Rennes in the Europa League play-off round at San Siro, Stefano Pioli will rely heavily on Theo Hernandez who is reliable in any situation. The Frenchman could play either play on the flank or centrally, given the injury doubts.

The question mark about Theo’s position against Rennes arises from the doubt about the presence of Simon Kjaer. The Danish central defender suffered muscle discomfort in the second half of the match against Napoli on Sunday and Jan-Carlo Simic has not been named in the squad list.

Malick Thiaw could be among the players called up but the chances of him starting are not yet known, and for this reason the choice would fall on Theo Hernandez to try and keep out Terrier and Kalimuendo.

Over the last few weeks Theo has regained his confidence and it seems to have started when was moved to the centre. He was able to adapt well, demonstrating an excellent sense of anticipation and positioning, not giving up the attacking instincts which are in his DNA.

As a full-back he has returned to making the difference on the left wing, also benefiting Rafael Leao’s game given their truly phenomenal understanding, as was shown against Napoli. So Milan can rest assured.
