Following AC Milan’s disappointing defeat to Monza, Massimo Ambrosini has offered an update about the Rossoneri’s aims for the rest of the season.
There are several negatives to draw from Sunday’s loss, and the result will be at the forefront of these. Then, there is the fact that Luka Jovic seemingly made the game over early into the second half, and then there are the issues with Stefano Pioli’s squad selection.
The Rossoneri fought back to make the game 2-2, with Christian Pulisic instrumental to the comeback. Frustratingly, though, Monza scored a further two, and Milan and Pioli were left red-faced.
Before the game, moving into second place had become a reality, with Juventus slipping a few times and the Diavolo recently impressing with their form. However, Pioli’s side did not take their chance, and any hopes of the Scudetto are now a distant dream away.
Ambrosini spoke about the Rossoneri’s aims for the rest of the season, and Pioli’s post-match press conference after the match to DAZN – his comments have been relayed by Football Italia.
“Let me say that the disappointment we saw in Pioli’s eyes and words means that probably Milan were keeping an eye up there [the top of the Serie A table]. They had the ambition to finish at the top or at least get to the second-leg derby with Inter on their targets.”
“Now, they must go as far as possible [in the Europa League] and grant a comfortable qualification.”
