AC Milan have been in fine form in 2024 when it comes to goal scoring, and tonight against Monza they will rely on a refreshed attack compared to the last few games.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recall, Milan have scored in every match since November 4th which was the 1-0 home defeat against Udinese that seemed to confirm the team were in a crisis.
From January to today, the Rossoneri have put their foot down on the accelerator: from the 4-1 against Cagliari in the Coppa Italia to the 3-0 win against Rennes in the Europa League, the team have scored 23 goals at an average of 2.55 per match.
In the previous months, i.e. from August to December, Milan were scoring 1.54 goals per game. Milan now score more also because Pioli is now able to exploit the full potential of the options in attack too.
For half the season Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic did the bulk of the work in terms of scoring, then Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor began contributing. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Theo Hernandez got in the act, plus special guests like Yacine Adli and Matteo Gabbia.
Milan have become a goal factory that knows no end: Giroud leads the way with 12 across all competitions but then there are four players who have seven goals (Leao, Jovic, Loftus and Pulisic).
Tonight Pioli is expected to rely on Okafor and Jovic from the start in attack, with changes to the other departments as well.
I wouldn’t call it a goal factory quite yet. I mean look at Inter’s stats. Milan started the calendar year well. But we could be more clinical in front of goal given the chances we create.
Hopefully Leao can find that goal scoring form. Could see how emotional he was after the goal vs Rennes.
