AC Milan Women recorded a much-needed morale boosting win against city rivals Inter this afternoon, claiming derby bragging rights with a 2-1 victory.
The 1-0 defeat eight days ago against Sassuolo means that Davide Corti’s side mathematically cannot reach the top half before the table splits after Matchday 18, which means that they will not be fighting for the Scudetto.
However, there is of course still points and pride to play for, which especially applies to a game like the derby. It could hardly have been a better opening to the game either for the Rossonere.
They took the lead inside 10 minutes when a great move led by Dompig on the left saw a dangerous cross deflected into the net by Alborghetti.
About 20 minutes later it was 2-0. Piga put a ball in the centre and Cetinja dealt with it badly, which allowed Staskova to finish from close range and double the advantage.
Right before the half-time interval the deficit was halved as Serturini ran down the left wing, cut inside and unleashed a right-footed shot straight into the corner. However, Milan would hang on for a big win.
