GdS: A long wait about to end – Thiaw to start for first time in 82 days

By Oliver Fisher -

It has been a long time coming, but Malick Thiaw is expected to start the game for AC Milan against Monza tonight which will mark his first in nearly three months.

As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports, the expectation is that Thiaw will get the nod from minute one for tonight’s match against Monza at the U-Power Stadium, in which Milan will try to jump into seconds.

After having played 28 minutes off the bench in the Europa League on Thursday evening at San Siro against Rennes, this time the German will take the field from the start for the first time in 82 days.

The game in question was on November 28 when Milan lost 3-1 against Borussia Dortmund in the final home game of their Champions League group stage campaign.

The former Schalke player suffered a ‘severe myotendinous injury to the biceps femoris of his left thigh’ which kept him sidelined for two and a half months. Monza-Milan will be Thiaw’s 41st match with the Rossoneri, and his 18th this season.

Moreover, the paper reports that Matteo Gabbia should keep a starting spot. He and Thiaw have played just four games together and none from the start.
