There has been a lot of talk about Lorenzo Colombo being involved in a deal for Alessandro Buongiorno, but a report has claimed a different counterpart could be used.
According to Il Giornale, Milan want to sign a top centre-back before the January transfer window closes and they have identified Buongiorno as the right man to strengthen the rearguard.
On the table at the moment is an offer of €15-16m plus Colombo, who is currently on loan at Monza where he appears to have lost his starting spot after a tough last few weeks.
However, the source states to watch out for Jan-Carlo Simic as a possible counterpart to be included in the deal. The young centre-back has recently had some first team chances at Milan and has done well.
The operation is ‘complicated but far from impossible’ as per the paper, also because the player’s entourage are working on the possible move from Turin to Milan.
Simic is a player that seems to be in demand, as MilanNews reported that the club are planning to open talks with him over a renewal amid interest from clubs abroad.
His development under Ignazio Abate in the Primavera was obvious, and Stefano Pioli noticed. He got playing time amid the defensive emergency and his goal against Monza – after coming on for the injured Tommaso Pobega – was an unforgettable moment.
Don’t even consider this trade.
Simic contract expires in 2025 and hasn’t been renewed.
We have Pellegrino, Tomori, Thiaw, Kalulu, Gabbia (Kjaer won’t be renewed).
Terracciano also can play as a central defender and so can Theo.
I’d expect his agent would ask for play time to consider a renewal since Primavera is already considered a downgrade.
I’m not sure why we’re so invested in buying a central defender unless we’ve already planned to sell one or more defenders in the summer.
We should look to get only a defender on loan with option to buy.
That and to get the U23 registered ASAP.
I can’t read minds, but I’m betting Pellegrino is not going to pan out. He was a desperation buy, and in the limited action that he saw he looked like a deer in the headlights, AND he’s already 23. Meanwhile, Kalulu hasn’t been the same player we saw in the scudetto season and Gabbia isn’t exactly world class. If there are departures, I think it will be one of Gabbia or Kalulu, since this also represents a big profit. That will leave Tomori, Thiaw, whichever one of Kalulu and Gabbia remains, and then Buongiorno. That’s four CBs for two spots, which is the bare minimum. Then we have Simic, if he isn’t stupidly used as a bargaining chip. If he is, then maybe Kalulu and Gabbia both stay. So that’s five CBs for two spots, and that would make sense. It makes even more sense if we’re switching to a 3 man backline next season…
I don’t think Kalulu will get sold because he can play both CB and RB. Gabbia on the other hand isn’t an AC Milan level player and I don’t think he will ever be. Yes he is Italian and a Primavera prodigy that helps a lot Milans uefa lists, but I don’t know if he will ever be useful other than being just a bench player. Simic is more promising. He can grow more as a player and be a decent solution of the bench, at least for his early years, after 2-3 years you can evaluate his growth and decide what to do with him. But for now I don’t want to give him in exchange for Buongiorno who is not something crazy.
Gabbia is the best cb we have after tomori
Gabbia is good for the lists and has a lot more experience than Simic. New players have ups and downs and after the first year the other teams will put a lot more emphasis at analyzing their weaker spots.
This is the reason why there are players that played well for a year and then dropped (e.g. see Lovato). Really hope Kalulu gets out of the slump.
This is also the reason that having next to you someone experienced makes you look better since that other defender can cover your weak spots and also guide you when to press, when to drop , etc.
The point that I’m trying to make in this wordy comment is that
-1- it’s too soon to tell whether Simic will ever be a player at the Milan level, we’d either have to sell or loan him, playing him is very risky. Management needs to have a clear vision on this.
-2- We’d have to be very careful on who we buy and who plays in central defense now that Kjaer will leave. It can make the entire team better or worse.
Also if Thiago Motta will be our coach next year, it wouldn’t be surprising that Milan decides to spend some big money to get 2-3 players from Bologna (Zirkzee, Buongiorno, Calafiori, Ferguson to name a few ) especially if Bologna also buy Saelemakers
Then you clearly haven’t watched Milan and Gabbia before this season. Kid was always solid when played. He’s one of most underrated CB’s out there. He’s our new Kajer when he leaves. He’s not fast but his positioning and reading of the game is really good. Gabbia and Tomori would form a strong tandem back there.
Ted can’t reply to you so I reply on my comment. I’ve seen Gabbia play and not only for Milan but also for Primavera and Villareal. He is not fast and he is not the strongest one. He have good positioning as you mentioned but I don’t know if he is a CB you can relay on. That’s why I am betting my hopes on Simic, he is more physical and he can learn how to place himself. If he improves his tactical game he can be solid. Maybe it’s a point of view on how I want to be a CB, but I can totally see your point. If Milan decides to keep him I hope you will be right.
I totally agree about Simić and I’d like him to build his career here. The boy is undoubtly talented and has character. I also think this report is fabricated. I’m just tired of people complaining about Gabbia. I’ve also been following him from his Primavera times and at that time he was widely touted and hyped just as Simić is today. I follwed him closely with first team and he was always solid. He is not the fastest player but he’s smart and strong with good timing and positioning. Just like Kjaer. But people take every opportunity to him down. I just think they don’t really know him or haven’t followed him before.
And of course I’m assuming Kjaer does not get renewed.
Nope.
They can have Colombo, Gabbia, Pobega, any of the Primavera players not named Camarda, Zenoli or Cuenca.
are you dumb? They are looking for youth products not 24 year olds
grow a brain
Something’s wrong with you.
Always so angry 😠.
Where does it say that Torino is looking for youth products, and aren’t Gabbia and Pobega a YOUTH PRODUCTS?
Use your brain.
yeah 24 year olds, very young
LEARN MATH
Hell NO. Take Colombo and Pobega. I would even give them Pobega for free to sweeten the deal.
If its a 1-2 year dry loan then it would be a good idea
dumbest managers ever… just give then Pobegba…. Simic will grow to be one of the best of his generation.. we cant lose such a huge talent that is more committed to the team
Instead of forcing this player, now when our CBs are injured, to play and boost his value to 20+ mil they brought back gabbia and consider to gift him to torino…
Just no
niemals SImic in diesen deal miteinbeziehen!
Simic könnte zu einem wichtigen Milan Spieler heranwachsen
Why the hell does milan have a primavera team? Is it not just a waste of money, time and energy? How many primavera players ever make it to the pitch? … and as soon as there appears a good prospect, we hardly give him any playtime but simply ship him away to some other club. Really sick of milan’s management these days.
I understand what you’re saying but the VAST majority of Primavera players, Milan or otherwise, do not make it in Serie A or B for that matter. Its a numbers game. Each year we have about 20 Primavera players as a low estimate to fill how many spots in a first team? Not 11, maybe 3 or 4 in a small club at best. Reality is probably around 1 or 2. Now multiply the other 15 (on the low side) that never get sweat by 20 teams and each year 300 players gets churned out. Rinse and repeat every year
Some snot-nosed noob is dealing with a seasoned negotiator like Cairo and you guys are expecting a win? Lol
Absolutely not! Do not let Simic go, that would be an awful move.
No. Hell no! Wth
This is stupid decision don’t even try it!!
Don’t understand this. If you’re not simply adding Buongiorno to the group (and keeping Simic), then what’s the point of purchasing Buongiorno? Just keep giving Simic minutes.
What’s going to happen is we’ll get Buongiorno and send Simic the other way. Pioli will not play Buongiorno, meanwhile Simic will begin to start for Torino. Fastforward to 2025 and Simic is making a 40-50m move to Juventus or PL, while Buongiorno is subbing for us. Don’t get me wrong, I like Buongiorno, but not at the expense of Simic.
Exactly
Precisely.
This is TO ONLY way to include Simic:
In: Buongiorno
Direct transfer: Colombo
+
Dry loan with the ability to recall: Simic (signed renewal w. Milan)
+ 15M
Simic is destined to be a superstar. He’s got everything to make it. Buongiorno? Could be a one-season-wonder. Simic is the real deal. DO NOT **** THIS UP!!!
Ok let’s not get ahead of ourselves here lol 😂
Simic is ok. Nothing so far indicates he can be a superstar.
Will*
Actually just the opposite. He’s got the speed & strength. He has a cool head. Reads the game well. There’s nothing that indicates he cannot be a superstar.
Cannot play an offside trap to save his life. Body positioning is bad (he’s doing that weird side to side when facing ball nonsense that crept into football about 5 years ago around Giampaol’s time, and it’s just really bad. You have a better scope of the field when strictly facing forward). Bad pitch positioning, leaves gaps between himself and the first defensive mid, unsure of when to come out. I don’t know where u got this “pace” from..seems very regular to me but I haven’t seen many games where we played a high line with him (probably because he can’t play an officer trap very well). Cannot play tall ball holding strikers very well especially in hold up plays. What else? 🤔
There are lots of things dude needs to work on before calling him a superstar
My point is really don’t just look at the highlights of where he does well or seemingly so. A tackle here and there is great. Reading a play is great . Not saying he didn’t do that. But to develop he has many many shortcomings as I’ve highlighted above
We dont even need a cb. We have Simić.
Why cant we keep Kjaer for 1 more year and slowly groom and integrate Simič as his replacement?
If they wanna spend 25-30M spend it on a DM right now or a ST in the summer
if we get Bongi, extend Simic 2027 then loan 2y to them or as counterpart with bbc 10m max
Everybody needs to calm down. These are just rumors and speculation. This wouldn’t make any logical sense on paper.
You don’t look to add a CB to then turn around and lose another CB. If not for the simple fact that you can turn around and offload Simic in 3-4 years (if you had to) for a nice chunk of change and register a capital gain.
You never know with “this kind” of management.
I said no If simic involving this deal
It’s the never ending cycle of impatience that makes progression out of the academy to the first team basically impossible.
My cynical speculations aside, I don’t really understand why the deal for Buongiorno has to be made now.
Gabbia has been very solid. Pellegrino is fit. Kjear is fit. Theo has done well at CB and Simic has shown he is capable, certainly off the bench (if a full 90 is beyond him).
Thiaw is expected back in 1 February. We play only Udinese (away) and Bologna (at home) between now and Thiaw’s return. We can ease him back against Frosinone on 4 February. We then play Napoli on 12 February, Tomori is scheduled to return on 15 February and we play Rennes on 16 February.
They’re proposing to spend a large sum of cash, relatively to Milan’s budget, and include one of the most promising 18 year old CBs in the world for what? A home game against a plucky Bologna and then the potential threat of Osimhen and Kvara at home with Napoli is a hole.
We seem to just stumble from reactionary decision to reactionary decision.
This has to be a fake story lol – BUT if true – What is this obsession with Boungiornio??? 40M is for this kid??? Insane. Giving up Simic? Columbo? I’m not a fan of Columbo but surely there are other CB’s that don’t cost half as much with the potential to be just as good or better. We won’t spend 40M on a #9 yet we will on a CB that is arguably not an upgrade over Tomori or Thiaw??? So one of those 3 would be a back up OR – we are selling either Thiaw or Tomori in the summer. You don’t spend 40M on a CB to have him sit the bench just for depth. One of Thiaw or Tomori is gone is this summer for sure if this goes through.
At these prices I would just stick with the current situation. – Gabbia, Simic Kajer and Theo at CB – until Kalulu Thiaw and Tomori get healthy in a month. Waste of 40M plus IMO.
Georgie boy and Moncada are losing their fkn minds lol. This has to be fake
Spend 40M on a # 9 you donkeys
All this talk about Simic a future superstar. You guys are mad. Crazy. Not every teenager that steps on the senior pitch is a generational talent. In fact 99% of those won’t even turn out to be a serie a player.
Camadra is a different issue of course. The guy has generational talent written all over his face
“All this talk about Simic a future superstar. You guys are mad. Crazy. Not every teenager that steps on the senior pitch is a generational talent. In fact 99% of those won’t even turn out to be a serie a player. ”
No one has said anything about the others becoming a superstar. I doubt that even Camarda will one. We’ve had plenty of goal-scoring monsters in the youth teams and were are they now? Nowhere near superstars.
No one has said Zeroli, Bartesaghi or others becoming a superstar. I said Simic looks as he’s got everything it takes. Only Simic. It’s up to him and I believe he will be a huge success. Let’s get back to the topic in 3 years and I’m sure you’ll be proven wrong by then. 😉
Where do good players come from?
They must come from someone’s youth academy or does the stalk drop them at a French club?
Has anyone bothered to read the article over at Il Giornale? It reads like it was written by a bot. Or a child. Or a childbot. This isn’t a thing so you can all put your lungs back in your chest.
The Buongiorno rumours persist though, and I’d be vey surprised if we spent that much cash in January for the sake of it, so I’m wondering if their is a Prem bid for Tomori on the horizon…
