SM: Milan face dilemma – Colombo wants loan but Pioli has other ideas

By Oliver Fisher -

Cagliari have put Lorenzo Colombo in their sights, but AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has different ideas about the immediate future of the striker.

Colombo is currently the third striker in Pioli’s squad and he has been evaluating his performances during the preseason friendly matches both at Milanello and on the tour of the United States.

Our colleagues at SempreMilan.it report that the Milan management oriented towards strengthening other departments, and thus it seems difficult to imagine another striker will arrive. As a result, Pioli wants to keep him as cover.

This makes it more difficult to let Colombo go who, however, would like to play continuously even at a club fighting to avoid relegation, because he knows how important consistent minutes are for his development at 21.

In the next few days, the Rossoneri will meet the agent of Colombo to discuss the options, with Cagliari keen on signing him and happy to accept a dry loan deal.

  1. Since Pioli isn’t really the rotation coach and a lot of players are never used I think he should go on loan. He will waste a year waiting, Gabbia did the same for a few seasons…

  2. I dont know why i am happy with this news. Lol.. I am supporting you lorenzo. You need more playing time, rather becoming third choice of pioli system. I assure you, you will spend entire year in the bench.

  3. Chat between Colombo and Pioli
Colombo i want to leave to get play time!
Pioli i want you to stay!
Colombo do i get more then 20 minutes all season?
Pioli yes you are gonna play plenty of minutes in several games and be the starter in some!
Colombo ok thanks i absolutely want to leave on loan!
Pioli but i said that you are gonna get plenty of minutes and start some games from the first minute!
Colombo yes thats the reason whats gonna happen is the opposite of that!
    Pioli left the chat

  4. That’s a tough nut. If they can guarantee the same amount of minutes he got last year he should stay. Otherwise better to loan
    My 2 cents anyway

  5. Pioli has lost the plot, first sabotaging Adli + CDK’s careers to then sabotaging Krunic’s departure to Fenerbache and now trying to sabotage Colombo’s loan. Get rid of the baldy.

        1. As much as I always admire your knowledge and reasonability, this time I think u need to open your eyes. Pioli is bang average. He really doesn’t do much to the team, both tactically and mentally. I haven’t seen us playing beautiful football for most of the time he coached. He isn’t creative enough with his formations and doesn’t rotate players well, although we haven’t had quite a deep squad before anyway. But a good coach is someone who could create a system that brings out the best in his players, and Pioli clearly doesn’t do such things.

  6. Seems Pioli is ready to keep all the players that aren’t offering much. Anyway, it’s up to the management to decide what they want for the club. We have kept too many bench-warmers, and now, we have a chance to clear out, someone is blocking the move; it’s crazy. Colombo has no place at Milan for now. He needs to go the likes of Atalanta, Sassuolo or Torino, to improve his game.

  7. I am actually not in favor of firing Pioli. Let’s wait and see what he does. We’re not done this summer either. But, I’m not approving of Krunic even staying here.

  8. I’m inclined to agree with some of the guys on this, this might very well be Pioli’s last season as our coach. Don’t get me wrong he’s done well and achieved his dream of winning Serie A as a coach, but we need fresh ideas. With this group of players we should be top 2, but he doesn’t inspire any confidence I’m afraid. I do agree with him on keeping Colombo, give the kid a chance, the same people complaining about him staying are the same people saying we don’t use our Italian players, they have already stated Okafor is Leao’s backup, give the Hulk a chance. Just like we gave Borriello his chance back in the day.

  9. Let the boy go!
If he gets in the right team for him (I haven’t seen how Cagliari play, but knowing Ranieri and his skill to get the best out of a player, I sincerely hope Colombo can convert, or rather, will continue to develop and come back next year as a super reinforcement for our attack. and a replacement for Giroud!
So, let him go, don’t bury him by keeping him on the bench!
