One of the situations that the AC Milan management will have to resolve in the coming weeks is the future of Olivier Giroud, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) takes stock of Giroud’s situation, pointing out how at the age of 37 he is proving to be fundamental and almost indispensable for Stefano Pioli.
For Giroud the numbers speak for themselves: 11 goals in 20 league games, plus eight assists. The numbers seem to be growing gae by game, and it becomes 12 goals and nine assists if including the Champions League.
These are numbers that evidently place him at the centre of the current plans, but for the future his agent Vincenzo Morabito left a lot open during an interview with Radio CRC.
“The wedding is done in two, I think the season finale will be decisive. He’s fine at Milan, but he also has to take his family into account. In the meantime, he will give everything for Milan until the end,” he said.
A contract renewal for Giroud this time will depend more on the player and the life choice he will make together with his family, as opposed to last year when the choice was mostly Milan’s.
The former Chelsea man has already said no to Saudi Pro League money once and would like to experience an exciting challenge in the USA by joining a Major League Soccer side in Miami, Los Angeles or New York.
One of Joshua Zirkzee or Benjamin Šeško could arrive at Milan in the summer to take the No.9 shirt, but the Rossoneri will still await Giroud’s decision.
If he wanted to stay, Milan would not say no and would look for a new financial agreement until 30 June 2025, but at a lower figure than the €3.5m net per year he currently gets.
