AC Milan Women claimed just one point from their clash against Sampdoria earlier this evening. Kosovare Asllani was the goalscorer for the Rossoneri, and the feeling is that they should have come away with a win.
Maurizio Ganz’s side headed into the clash with eight points, sitting in sixth place, and just one point ahead of Sampdoria. A win, in short, was certainly necessary after what has been a rather poor start to the season.
Our correspondent Luca Maninetti, covering the game for SempreMilan.it, was present and got to see Milan Women in action. He didn’t get to see Ganz, though, who was suspended and thus his assistant Davide Cordone took charge on the bench.
Asllani gave Milan the lead with a composed finish after seven minutes. However, in the end, it wasn’t enough as Sampdoria converted a penalty in the second half. Considering some of the chances at the end, the Rossonere certainly could have regained the lead.
Below are the key events from Maninetti’s report, as well as the XIs.
Key events
1′ – The match has started!
7′ – MILAN GOAL GOAL! Asllani picked out well in the box and she gets it under the crossbar! 1-0!
40′ – Sampdoria have a great chance! A free-kick is sent into the box but Sena sensationally misses the target with Giuliani almost taken aback.
46′ – The first half ends here!
46′ – The second half has started!
70′ – Penalty kick for Sampdoria! Sena is brought down by Piga, who is booked.
71′ – Sampdoria goal. Sena beats Giuliani.
75′ – A great chance for Milan! Bergamaschi goes to the right and puts it in the middle, but the ball is blocked. Arnadottir arrives and kicks a deflected shot with a left foot, but it’s kept out by a miracle from Tampieri.
77′ – Milan double chance! First with Dompig’s header, then with Grimshaw’s right foot, both a stone’s throw from the goal, they are unable to get it back into the net! What a chance!!
90′ – 4 minutes of added time.
FT: It ends here! Milan vs. Sampdoria 1-1, the league campaign is now seriously at risk!
