Giroud offers anecdote about Rennes history: “There has always been interest”

By Ben Dixon -

Ahead of AC Milan’s clash against Stade Rennais in the Europa League, Olivier Giroud has spoken about his history in France, how his career may have differed and offered a potential insight into his future.

The Frenchman will mainly be known for his time in England and, of course, with Milan. However, his roots are firmly in France, where he assisted Montpellier to win Ligue 1 in the 2011-12 season, scoring 21 goals in the process, which earned him his move to Arsenal.

Now, 37 years old, with his immediate future still undecided, he is still consistently performing for the Rossoneri, and he could even reach 20 league goals this season, which would be a first for the club since Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the 2010-11 season.

Whatever happens at the end of the current season, Giroud will be remembered very fondly at Milan. Given the decision about his future is now in his hands, a decision should be reached in the upcoming months.

Giroud spoke to Ouest-France about his history with the French outfit, and his comments have been relayed by MilanNews.

“I have always liked [Francois] Pinault [The owner of Rennes], we were even neighbours for a time in London and our wives got along well too. In the past, there has been interest from Rennes and it is always a pleasure for me to see this sympathy I get in France. I love Brittany, but going back there is not in my plans at the moment.”
